If you don't need these apps, and thus never use them, why were you excited about the new versions and why did you purchase iLife and iWork? I don't use them so often, I've never considered purchasing Apple's iApps. "I WANT to like it." Why? Learn about it, read a review or something. It's fair to be skeptical, the app has to win you over, you're supposed to use it for a good reason. "OMIGOD!!!!11 This is the newer version" is not considered a good reason. Forget about the buzz for just a minute, your life is not tied with the next rumor, the next event, the '08 version of some iApp you never use anyway. "and I’ll do it again next year."
